Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) honored its June Exceptional Employee of the Month, Kristin VanBuskirk, FNP, earlier this month.

VanBuskirk, who has worked as a family nurse practitioner at HRMC just over two years, was nominated by coworkers to receive the honor. According to the nomination by her peers, she can be described as caring, kind, compassionate, hardworking and understanding.

“She is an all-around great employee and provides excellent care to all her patients, even if it entails taking away from her personal life to do so,” remarked a coworker.  She is noted for living by the HRMC core values of helpful, accessible and knowledgeable.

VanBuskirk is an advocate for organ donation and Donate Life America, including National Donate Life Month.  Organ donation is a cause near and dear to her heart, for which she promotes and brings awareness, showing her selfless and truly caring nature.

HRMC’s Exceptional Employee of the Month award recognizes an employee who goes above and beyond to demonstrate the hospital’s values. Employees can be nominated by other coworkers or by a patient or visitor who witnesses exceptional service. A committee of employees from various hospital departments chooses the employee on a monthly basis and an Exceptional Employee of the Year is chosen at year-end from the 12 monthly honorees by the HRMC board of directors.

As June exceptional employee, VanBuskirk received a meal certificate to a local restaurant, a professional photo session and portrait, $50, a lapel pin and a special parking place for a month.

VanBuskirk earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Presentation College in Aberdeen, South Dakota, and worked as a registered nurse for eight years before returning to school for advanced nursing. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing degree with pediatric specialty in 2014 followed by her post-master’s certificate in family medicine, both from Mount Marty College. VanBuskirk previously worked in Aberdeen and began seeing patients at HRMC Physicians Clinic in March 2020.

VanBuskirk enjoys attending her children’s many sporting events, camping and traveling.  She especially enjoys traveling to Las Vegas and the Black Hills of South Dakota.  VanBuskirk and her husband, Patrick, live in rural Hitchcock and have four children: son, Caden, forever fifteen; daughter, Karter; and sons, Sawyer and Carson.

Patients or visitors can nominate an exceptional employee by calling 605-353-6539 for a nomination form or via e-mail at hr@huronregional.org.
