HRMC Honors Lar as April Exceptional Employee

April 14, 2023

Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) honored its April Exceptional Employee of the Month, Mu Lar, ancillary support aide at the HRMC Physicians Clinic, earlier this month.

Lar, who has worked at HRMC for more than six years, was nominated by a host of coworkers to receive the honor. According to one nomination by a peer, “Mu’s energetic spirit to serve makes her extremely accessible and approachable. She is a light to those she works with and is always in a positive mood.”

As an ancillary support aide, Mu supports lab services at the Physicians Clinic, including patient blood draws.  Another nominating co-worker commented, ”Mu is very knowledgeable when it comes to drawing lab. She can go from doing a blood draw on an infant to a hand draw on a geriatric patient,” the nomination continued, “She is very good at her job and patients know this, often requesting her if she’s available.”

HRMC’s Exceptional Employee of the Month award recognizes an employee who goes above and beyond to demonstrate the hospital’s values. Employees can be nominated by other coworkers or by a patient or visitor who witnesses exceptional service. A committee of employees from various hospital departments chooses the employee on a monthly basis and an Exceptional Employee of the Year is chosen at year-end from the 12 monthly honorees by the HRMC board of directors.

As the April exceptional employee, Lar received a meal certificate to a local restaurant, a professional photo session and portrait, $50, a lapel pin and a special parking place for a month.

“It is exciting to me when I make patients happy,” explained Lar, who has been recognized by her peers for her energy, kindness and compassion for peers and patients alike. “I enjoy helping people. I feel good when patients tell me I’ve done a great job at drawing their blood without pain.”  Lar is also fluent in Karen and Burmese, often acting as an advocate for community members and finding solutions for those in need.

Lar lives in Huron with her parents and three sons, ages 7, nearly 9 and 13.  In her spare time, she enjoys fishing and camping with her children as well as gardening.

Patients or visitors can nominate an exceptional employee by calling 605-353-6539 for a nomination form or via e-mail at hr@huronregional.org.
