Former Army Surgeon Joins HRMC Physicians Clinic

Our dedicated team of surgeons now includes Dr. Richard Ellison, who brings years of knowledge and experience to our facility, including several tours of duty in Iraq.

Dr. Ellison received his bachelor ’s degree in biology at the University of North Georgia and continued his education at the Medical College Georgia. He is board-certified in general surgery, and performs trauma and acute care surgery as well. He sees patients in the HRMC Physicians Clinic, as well as the emergency room and performs both inpatient and same day procedures for patients of all ages.

Serving His Country, Serving His Community

Dr. Ellison previously practiced as a military physician. He enlisted in the Army in 1992 and completed his internship at the Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center. Dr. Ellison served as chief of surgery at both the Womack Army Medical Center and in a combat support hospital while he was deployed in
Iraq, where he was also a staff surgeon at another combat support hospital. Dr. Ellison received numerous honors and recognitions, including the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal with Three Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart. We are honored to welcome Dr. Ellison to our surgery team. He and his wife, Kristi, retired from the Army to the Green Bay, Wisconsin area, and have three grown sons and two grandchildren. He sees patients in Huron for three weeks on and then three weeks off. He is currently accepting new patients.
